{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-176.121","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 176.121","heading":"Construction work by department employees.","body":"The Department of Highways may cause any road construction or reconstruction to be\ndone by employees of the department instead of through contractors when, in the opinion\nof the commissioner as expressed in an official order, any of the following condition s is\nfound to exist:\n(1) Emergency construction or reconstruction is made necessary by the fact that a road\nhas been rendered unusable or the urgency of need for construction or\nreconstruction is apparent.\n(2) Construction or reconstruction of access roads  would serve as an inducement to\nindustrial location or substantial expansion of industry, and the estimated cost of the\nproject is less than one hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($125,000).\n(3) The project involves: an existing road and provides for s uch work as improvement\nof sight distance, traffic marking, channelization or the addition or widening of\ntraffic lanes or widening of shoulders; or construction, reconstruction, widening or\nstrengthening of small bridges and projects for which preparation  of detailed plans\nrequired to secure bids is unnecessary; or an emergency need does not allow for\ntime for preparation of plans and advertisement for bids.\n(4) No satisfactory bid is received for the construction or reconstruction of the road\nafter all ne cessary steps have been taken to obtain bids for such work, and the\nestimated cost of the projects is less than one hundred twenty -five thousand dollars\n($125,000).","path":["KRS Chapter 176"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=5178","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:27Z","sha256":"21a9c7652bdee832487430ec97238c829c8af85d4d5841ad2208e625746dc363","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-176.120","next":"us-ky/krs-176.122"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
