{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-176.5062","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 176.5062","heading":"Motorcycle rider training courses -- Exemption from test for motorcycle","body":"permit or operator's license.\n(1) The motorcycle safety education program shall offer motorcycle rider training\ncourses designed to develop and instill the knowledge, at titudes, habits, and skills\nnecessary for the proper operation of a motorcycle. The courses shall be taught by\ninstructors approved under KRS 176.5063 and shall include no fewer than eight (8)\nhours of hands-on instruction for a novice course.\n(2) Rider training courses shall be open to a resident of any state who is eligible for a\nmotor vehicle instruction permit in the person's home state.\n(3) Rider training courses shall be provided free of charge to applicants under eighteen\n(18) years of age.\n(4) The cabinet shall issue certificates of completion in a manner and form prescribed\nby administrative regulations promulgated pursuant to KRS Chapter 13A to persons\nwho satisfactorily complete the requirements of a motorcycle rider training course\noffered or authorized by the state program.\n(5) The Transportation Cabinet shall exempt applicants for a motorcycle instruction\npermit or operator's license or endorsement from the written test for a motorcycle\ninstruction permit and the skills test for a motorcycle ope rator's license if the\napplicant presents satisfactory evidence of successful completion of an approved\nrider training course that includes a similar test of knowledge and skills. Applicants\nunder this subsection who successfully completed their testing on  a three (3)\nwheeled motorcycle shall be subject to the restrictions outlined in KRS 186.480(3).\n(6) (a) The Motorcycle Safety Education Commission shall publish a list of approved\nrider training courses which meet the licensing requirements.\n(b) The Motorcycle Safety Education Commission shall publish a list of approved\ninstructor training courses which meet the licensing requirements.","path":["KRS Chapter 176"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=53649","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:27Z","sha256":"232de74fa3d2ea8fa21f2ddab7f81197c4c55be703b01badabf85b8e9455dce9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-176.5061","next":"us-ky/krs-176.5063"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
