{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-177.072","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 177.072","heading":"Motorcycle awareness signs.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Local government\" means:\n1. Any city organized and governed under KRS Chapter 83 or 83A;\n2. Any urban -county government organized and governed under KRS\nChapter 67A;\n3. Any consolidated local government organized and governed under KRS\nChapter 67C; and\n4. All of Kentucky's one hundred twenty (120) counties; and\n(b) \"Motorcycle awareness signs\" means signs that increase the awareness of the\ntraveling public to the possible presence of motorcycles and which are erected\nin the highway right -of-way of any high way that is part of the state primary\nroad system established under KRS 177.020.\n(2) All statutes to the contrary notwithstanding, the cabinet shall permit any local\ngovernment, subject to the provisions of subsection (4) of this section, to erect\nmotorcycle awareness signs.\n(3) The cabinet may, in addition to authorizing a local government to erect motorcycle\nawareness signs, also erect motorcycle awareness signs.\n(4) Any local government wanting to erect motorcycle awareness signs shall submit a\nwritten request to the cabinet. The request shall identify the routes and the specific\nlocation on the routes where motorcycle awareness signs will be erected. If the\ncabinet determines that any location identified in the request would pose a traffic\nsafety hazard, the cabinet shall identify an alternative location for the placement of\nthe motorcycle awareness signs.\n(5) The signs authorized to be erected under this section shall consist of two (2) signs.\nThe upper sign shall be diamond shaped with a motorcyclist pi ctured on the sign. A\nsecond rectangular sign shall be placed directly below the diamond shaped sign and\ncontain the words \"Share the Road.\" The signs shall conform with the standards\nestablished in the \"Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices\" published  by the\nUnited States Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration.","path":["KRS Chapter 177"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=5254","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:28Z","sha256":"70755d46f4c6fa60578f00a4cb6e5263de03a7cbeab4009bbff0141b3dd4eea7","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-177.070","next":"us-ky/krs-177.073"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
