{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-177.076","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 177.076","heading":"Definitions for KRS 177.076 to 177.079.","body":"As used in KRS 177.076 to 177.079, unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Historical site\" means a cultural or educational site that is officially listed in the\nNational Register of Historical Places;\n(2) \"Fully controlled access highway\" means a limi ted access highway, an interstate\nhighway, and a parkway;\n(3) \"Limited supplemental guide sign\" means an official highway guide sign that is\nerected by the Department of Highways to give directions, furnish advance notice,\nshow mileage or exit indicators, and indicate access to historical sites or to scenic,\ncultural, and recreational tourist areas or attractions and that conforms to the design\nstandards and requirements set forth in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control\nDevices (MUTCD);\n(4) \"Post-interchange guide sign\" means an official highway sign that may be used in\nconjunction with a limited supplemental guide sign and lists the name of a tourist\narea or attraction or an historical site and the distance from an interstate to a tourist\narea or attraction or an historical site. A post -interchange guide sign shall conform\nto the design standards and requirements set forth in the Manual on Uniform Traffic\nControl Devices (MUTCD);\n(5) \"Rural area\" means an area that does not have sufficient population to be designated\nas an urban area;\n(6) \"Tourist area or attraction\" means a cultural, recreational, or entertainment facility,\nfamily entertainment center, or an area of natural phenomenon or scenic beauty that\nis suited for outdoor recreation that receives a ma jor portion of its income or\nvisitors during the normal business season from motorists not residing in the\nimmediate area of the tourist area or attraction. \"Tourist area or attraction\" does not\ninclude any of the following:\n(a) Lodging facilities; or\n(b) Facilities that are primarily devoted to the retail sale of goods, unless the\nfacilities are a family entertainment center or the goods are created by\nindividuals at the tourist area or attraction or if the sale of goods is incidental\nto the tourist area or attraction; or\n(c) Recreational facilities that do not serve as a likely destination where\nindividuals who are not residents of the state would remain overnight in\ncommercial lodging at or near the tourism area or attraction;\n(7) \"Family entertainment ce nter\" means a facility, other than a stand alone shopping\ncenter, that meets all of the following criteria:\n(a) Contains a minimum of fifty thousand (50,000) square feet of building space;\n(b) Is located on property encompassing at least five (5) acres adj acent or\ncomplementary to a cultural, recreational, or entertainment facility, or natural\nrecreational area;\n(c) Provides a variety of entertainment and leisure options;\n(d) Contains at least one (1) restaurant and at least two (2) additional venues,\nincluding, but not limited to, live entertainment, concert halls, museums, zoos,\nor other cultural, recreational or leisure activities; and\n(e) Is at a location where sixty percent (60%) of the developed property is devoted\nto entertainment and food options.\n(8) \"City\" means an area with a population of one hundred thousand (100,000) or more\ndesignated by the United States Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census.","path":["KRS Chapter 177"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=5263","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:28Z","sha256":"0830fee3d557810f8ae878b6c0b7fce48cbb1333facfced2b8ac7f6efb23a223","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-177.075","next":"us-ky/krs-177.077"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
