{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-179.370","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 179.370","heading":"Closing of roads and bridges for repairs -- Temporary roads.","body":"(1) If it appears necessary to close a county road or bridge which is being constructed or\nrepaired, the county engineer shall execute a notice in duplicate, stating the\nnecessity for closing the road or bridge, and describing the portion to be closed. He\nshall cause a copy of the notice to be posted at each end of the portion of the road or\nbridge to be closed, and shall close such portion to travel by erecting suitable\nobstructions and posting conspicuous notices to the effect that it is closed. Not more\nthan one (1) mile of any county road shall be closed at one (1) time.\n(2) The county engineer shall provide a new location for constructing a temporary road\nto be used in lieu of the closed road, and may erect temporary bridges when\nnecessary. For the purposes of locating or constructing the temporary road or bridge,\nthe county engineer may enter upon the lands adjoining or near the closed road, and\nmay, with the approval of the fiscal court, agree with the owners of the lands as to\nthe damages caused thereby.\n(3) If the county engineer is unable to agree with the owner upon the amount of\ndamages sustained, the amount shall be ascertained and paid as provided in KRS\n178.110.\n(4) When a county road, or bridge, has been closed to the public as provided in this\nsection, no person shall disregard the obstructions and notices and drive or ride over\nthe portion of the road, or bridge, so closed.","path":["KRS Chapter 179"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=5509","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:31Z","sha256":"4d236106ba1afc608a54250d002b0edea7da6d39334ede55f91d6d89512d856b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-179.360","next":"us-ky/krs-179.375"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
