{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-180.105","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 180.105","heading":"Interstate bridges may be united in one project for construction,","body":"enlargement, repair or reconstruction -- Issuance of bonds and collection of\ntolls for projects.\n(1) Whenever the commissioner of highways shall deem it necessary to construct a new\nbridge, or to enlarge an existing bridge by the addition of new lanes of traffic, or, by\nreason of a major catastrophe, to repair or reconstruct an existing bridge, he may, by\norder, unite into a single bridge project all interstate bridges owned by the\nDepartment of Highways which are situated not more than ten (10) miles distant\nfrom each other.\n(2) When, pursuant to subsection (1) of this section, any bridges are united into a single\nbridge project, bonds may be issued for the purpose of paying the cost of the\nbuilding and construction of any such new bridge, or the performing of any of the\nother functions authorized under subsection (1) of this section, which may include\nthe cost of reconstruction, maintenance and operation of said bridge or bridges\nunited into a single bridge project only for and during the time the said bonds are\nbeing paid and only up until the time same are retired and paid, and in order to pay\nand retire any and all bonds so issued, the Department of Highways may charge and\ncollect tolls for vehicular traffic over the bridge or bridges constituting such single\nbridge project; provided, however, that the charging and collection of tolls shall not\nbegin until the completion of any new bridge built or constructed or upon the\ncompletion of a ny of the other functions authorized under subsection (1) of this\nsection, and shall terminate and be at an end after the completion of the payment of\nthe bonds issued for said purpose or purposes; and further provided that nothing in\nthis section, or else where contained, shall be construed to authorize the imposition,\ncharge or collecting of tolls at any time for the maintenance or operation of said\nbridge or bridges after the bonds have been retired and paid.","path":["KRS Chapter 180"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=5543","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:31Z","sha256":"064108cc949fe7be0e777db7b6f3f72ab31df203de1a0f0cacf8b2f2c272a29c","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-180.100","next":"us-ky/krs-180.106"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
