{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186.005","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186.005","heading":"Policy on regulation and registration of vehicles -- License plates.","body":"(1) It is declared to be the policy of this Commonwealth that all vehicles should be\nregulated, registered, and the laws pertaining thereto be administered by the\nTransportation Cabinet. Motor vehicles other than commercial vehicles should be\nregistered, regulated, and controlled by the Transportation Cabinet and the Justice\nand Public Safety Cabinet.\n(2) All motor vehicles registered under the provisions of KRS 186.050(1) shall be on\nan annual basis and evidenced by a license plate whose registration desig nation is a\ncombination of letters of the alphabet and Arabic numerical digits. These\nregistration plates shall be issued for use during a multiyear period and validated for\ncontinued use the following year, or years, by affixing an appropriate insignia of\nplastic or adhesive material bearing the date of the new year.\n(3) Unless otherwise specified, all motor vehicles shall have registration plates issued\nfor use during a multiyear period and validated for continued use the following year,\nby affixing an ap propriate insignia of plastic or adhesive material bearing the date\nof the new year.\n(4) The Transportation Cabinet may promulgate regulations and prepare the proper\ninsignia and forms, which forms shall include information required by the\nTransportation Cabinet.","path":["KRS Chapter 186"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=51007","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:36Z","sha256":"c906a64e1a82640c2116d8fe6dc9dc256b779377471b6f8e6edcb149aa3649ad","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-184.395","next":"us-ky/krs-186.010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
