{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186.068","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186.068","heading":"Transit tag for transporting motor vehicle out of state -- Administrative","body":"regulations -- Exclusion of motor vehicle dealers and distributors.\n(1) Individual sellers or owners of motor vehicles that would ordinarily be registered\nunder KRS 186.050(3 ) may obtain a transit tag from the Transportation Cabinet in\norder to transport the motor vehicle out of state. The fee for each transit tag issued\nshall be five dollars ($5).\n(2) A transit tag issued under this section shall be issued only for a motor vehicle which\nis ineligible for:\n(a) Registration under KRS 186.050; or\n(b) Temporary registration under KRS 186A.100.\n(3) The Transportation Cabinet shall promulgate administrative regulations pursuant to\nKRS Chapter 13A to establish application forms and p rocedures for the issuance of\ntransit tags. The application for a transit tag under this section shall be accompanied\nby proof of vehicle ownership and proof of insurance coverage in compliance with\nKRS 304.39-080.\n(4) A transit tag issued under this section shall be placed on a motor vehicle in the same\nmanner as a regular license plate.\n(5) Transit tags issued under this section shall expire fifteen (15) days from the date of\nissuance, and shall be designed in a manner that clearly identifies the expirati on\ndate on the face of the tag in a tamper-resistant manner.\n(6)  This section shall not apply to motor vehicle dealers or distributors licensed under\nKRS Chapter 190.","path":["KRS Chapter 186"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=42714","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:37Z","sha256":"6a588a36906ac02f62af91dbcadbe9d34dac874847ae3e0a86f0498a1f78d4ae","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186.067","next":"us-ky/krs-186.070"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
