{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186.120","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186.120","heading":"Refund of portion of fee when motor vehicle destroyed.","body":"(1) If any motor vehicle other than a commercial vehicle upon which the license tax has\nbeen paid is destroyed by fire or accident, so that the vehicle is rendered entirely\nuseless the owner shall be entitled to have refunded to him a part of the license fee\npaid by him proportionate to the registration period for which the license was\ngranted.\n(2) If any commercial vehicle upon which the license tax has been paid is destroyed by\nfire or accident so that the vehicle is rendered entirely useless the owner is ent itled\nto have refunded to him that portion of the tax which he had theretofore paid\nallocable to the remaining complete quarters of the unexpired period for which the\ntax was paid.\n(3) To obtain the refund, the owner whose motor vehicle has been destroyed shall apply\nto the Transportation Cabinet, submitting his affidavit and the affidavits of two (2)\nreputable persons, attesting to the fact that the vehicle has been destroyed, and the\nmanner of destruction, and shall return the original license plates to t he\nTransportation Cabinet. The Transportation Cabinet shall examine all applications\nand investigate the claims for refund, and if a claim is found to be correct, it shall\napprove it for payment, whereupon the Finance and Administration Cabinet shall\ndraw a warrant upon the State Treasurer in favor of the owner of the destroyed\nvehicle, and charge the amount of it to the state road fund.","path":["KRS Chapter 186"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=5958","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:37Z","sha256":"f4298a86101e778dd04e1e1f00bc76e3bfa715b1b42e0cf19138825e4c6c1921","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186.115","next":"us-ky/krs-186.130"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
