{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186.435","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186.435","heading":"Application for operator's license by driver who becomes Kentucky","body":"resident -- Verification of status in other jurisdiction -- Procedures for\npermanent residents -- Application of driver who becomes Kentucky resident.\n(1) Except as provided in sub section (4) of this section, a licensed driver who becomes\na Kentucky resident shall, within thirty (30) days of establishing residency, apply\nfor a Kentucky operator's license to the Transportation Cabinet.\n(2) The Transportation Cabinet shall, before iss uing a person a Kentucky operator's\nlicense, verify through the National Drivers Register that the person applying for a\nKentucky operator's license does not currently have his or her operator's license or\ndriving privilege suspended or revoked in another licensing jurisdiction.\n(3) A person who is not a United States citizen but who has been granted permanent\nresident status by the United States Department of Homeland Security, United\nStates Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, and who is a Kent ucky\nresident, shall follow the same procedures for applying for an original, renewal,\ntransfer, or duplicate operator's license as persons who are United States citizens.\n(4) A licensed driver from another jurisdiction who:\n(a) Is not a United States citizen;\n(b) Has not been granted permanent resident status by the United States\nDepartment of Homeland Security, United States Bureau of Citizenship and\nImmigration Services;\n(c) Becomes a Kentucky resident; and\n(d) Wishes to operate a motor vehicle;\nshall, within thirty (30) days of establishing residency, apply for a Kentucky\noperator's license under the provisions of KRS 186.4121.","path":["KRS Chapter 186"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=49858","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:38Z","sha256":"a0bed336955c2f32abb1e94cc81033e77e3070c1334861fd6987abb7e3aac3f8","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186.430","next":"us-ky/krs-186.440"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
