{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186.456","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186.456","heading":"Pilot project to provide operator's license skills testing in counties where","body":"testing is not offered -- Administration by Department of Kentucky State\nPolice -- Report.\n(1) As used in this section, \"state police\" means the Department of Ke ntucky State\nPolice.\n(2) From September 1, 2024, until December 31, 2028, the state police shall operate a\npilot program to provide operator's license skills testing in up to ten (10) counties in\nwhich the state police does not provide permanent, full -time, driver licensing\ntesting.\n(3) In administering the pilot project under this section, the state police shall:\n(a) Identify the counties participating in the pilot project based on both public\ndemand and available state police resources;\n(b) Provide testing in each county at least one (1) time each month;\n(c) Accept applications for testing slots through the state police's online\napplication portal;\n(d) Limit testing only to residents of the pilot project county where the test will be\nadministered;\n(e) Limit testing only to applicants for an intermediate license under KRS\n186.452; and\n(f) Evaluate service levels, unsubscribed appointments, and no -shows during the\nterm of the pilot project and, if necessary, move the pilot project to another\ncounty identified in subsection (2) of this section, while maintaining the pilot\nproject in up to ten (10) counties during the term of the project.\n(4) The state police shall collect data on testing done under this section and, by October\n31, 2025, submit a report to the Legislative Research Commission for referral to the\nInterim Joint Committee on Transportation providing:\n(a) Counts of the number of available testing appointments in each county,\napplicants served, unclaimed testing slots, and no-show appointments;\n(b) Information regarding how the pilot program affected testing associated with\nregional licensing offices; and\n(c) Recommendations on the continuation or expansion of the pilot project.","path":["KRS Chapter 186"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=57143","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:38Z","sha256":"9453207b07b98801ce144873923cc5d9fae22ecdc85e4a15d691ad156918b95d","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186.455","next":"us-ky/krs-186.460"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
