{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186.576","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186.576","heading":"Definitions for KRS 186.576 to 186.579.","body":"As used in KRS 186.576 to 186.579:\n(1) \"Applicant\" means any person applying for an instruction permit or an operator's\nlicense who must use a bioptic telescopic device in order to operate a motor vehicle;\n(2) \"Binocular vision\" means visual acuity that is  20/200 or better in both eyes, with or\nwithout corrective lenses;\n(3) \"Bioptic telescopic device\" means a two (2) focus optical system used to magnify\ndistant objects by including a small telescope that is mounted in a spectacle lens in a\nmanner to allow an unobstructed view of the horizontal visual field through a\nperson's normal distance corrective lens;\n(4) \"Certified driver training program\" means a program that provides and coordinates\ncomprehensive assessment and training of driving skills and respon ses that\nemphasizes the vision, hearing, psychological, perceptual, orientation, and mobility\nskills of an applicant and that is certified by the department;\n(5) \"Combined visual acuity\" means visual acuity attained by using both eyes together\nwhere a person has binocular vision;\n(6) \"Corrective lenses\" means eyeglasses, contact lenses, and intraocular lenses, but\ndoes not mean a bioptic telescopic device;\n(7) \"Daytime driving restriction\" means operation of a motor vehicle is restricted to the\nperiod of time from between thirty (30) minutes after sunrise and thirty (30) minutes\nbefore sunset. Under this restriction, driving during adverse weather conditions that\nsignificantly reduce the visibility of the roadway, other traffic, and traffic control\ndevices shall be prohibited;\n(8) \"Office\" means the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation;\n(9) \"Monocular vision\" means visual acuity that is 20/200 or better in only one (1) eye,\nwith or without corrective lenses;\n(10) \"Restricted out -of-state driver\" means a person  who has been issued, by another\nstate, a valid operator's license with a restriction requiring the use of a bioptic\ntelescopic device;\n(11) \"Vision specialist\" means a licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist;\n(12) \"Visual acuity\" means the measure of a pe rson's visual acuity based on the Snellen\nvisual acuity scale; and\n(13) \"Visual field\" means the area of physical space visible to the eye in a given fixed\nposition.","path":["KRS Chapter 186"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=49122","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:38Z","sha256":"1c583607ecf69098923698564e299485afac5e6367b8681e5056f7aadf7de398","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186.575","next":"us-ky/krs-186.577"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
