{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186.590","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186.590","heading":"Minor's negligence imputed to person signing application or allowing","body":"him or her to drive.\n(1) Any  negligence of a minor under the age of eighteen (18) who  has been\nlicensed upon an application signed as provided by KRS  186.470, when driving\nany motor vehicle upon a highway, shall be imputed to the person who signed\nthe application, if required, of the minor for the license. That person shall be\njointly and severally liable with the minor for any damages  caused by the\nnegligence.\n(2) If a minor deposits or there is deposited in his or her behalf, a proof of financial\nresponsibility in form and amounts required by KRS  304.39-110, the person\nwho  signed the application shall not, while such proof is maintained, be subject\nto the liability imposed by subsection (1). If the minor is the owner of a motor\nvehicle, the proof of financial responsibility shall be with respect to the\noperation of that motor vehicle; if not an owner, then with respect to the\noperation of any motor vehicle.\n(3) Every motor vehicle owner who causes or knowingly permits a minor under the\nage of eighteen (18) to drive the vehicle upon a highway, and any person who\ngives or furnishes a motor vehicle to the minor shall be jointly and severally\nliable with the minor for damage  caused by the negligence of the minor in\ndriving the vehicle.","path":["KRS Chapter 186"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=45710","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:38Z","sha256":"c38b7917334131b2fde7c3189061559e27054ca7fd9e838e8da9449ed2c8b52a","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186.580","next":"us-ky/krs-186.600"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
