{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186.655","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186.655","heading":"Time of registration -- Application -- Affidavit -- Sales tax.","body":"(1) Before any owner or operator of a trailer, semitrailer, or recreational vehicle may\noperate upon the highways, the owner shall apply for registration to the county clerk\nof the county in which he resides or in which the vehicles are principally operated.\nThe application shall be retained by the clerk and shall be accompanied by:\n(a) A manufacturer's certificate of origin, if the application is for the registration\nof a new trailer, semitrailer, or recreational vehicle;\n(b) The owner's registration receipt, if the trailer, semitrailer, or recreational\nvehicle was last registered in this state;\n(c) A bill of sale and the previous registration receipt, if last registered in another\nstate that does not require the owner of a trailer, semitrailer, or recreational\nvehicle to obtain a certificate of title or ownership;\n(d) A certificate of title, if last registered in another state that requires the owner\nof a trailer, semitrailer, or recreational vehicle to obtain a certificate of title or\nownership;\n(e) An affidav it from the owner of a trailer, semitrailer, or recreational vehicle\nassembled or constructed for his personal use on the highways; or\n(f) An affidavit from the owner of a trailer, semitrailer, or recreational vehicle\nwhere the bill of sale for the vehicle has been lost, destroyed, or stolen.\n(2) The affidavit required in paragraph (e) of subsection (1) of this section shall contain\nthe owner's name, address, date, brief description, and a statement that the trailer\nwas constructed by the owner for use on t he highways and additional information\nthe cabinet may require by administrative regulation promulgated pursuant to KRS\nChapter 13A.\n(3) The affidavit required in paragraph (f) of subsection (1) of this section shall contain\nthe owner's name, address, date , make, year made, serial or identification number,\nname of the person from whom purchased, date of purchase, a statement that the\nperson making the affidavit is the sole owner, the circumstances under which the\nbill of sale was lost, destroyed, or stolen,  and additional information the cabinet\nmay require by administrative regulation promulgated pursuant to KRS Chapter\n13A.\n(4) After initial registration of his vehicles in this state, the owner shall register his\ntrailer, semitrailer, or recreational vehic le on or before April 1 of each year.\nRegistration with the clerk shall be deemed to be registration with the cabinet.","path":["KRS Chapter 186"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=6106","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:39Z","sha256":"0d3bbdbfcf4bd645ec045dc0a616da48fecc2ef9732b8870ed21bd31f9124287","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186.650","next":"us-ky/krs-186.660"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
