{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186a.072","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186A.072","heading":"Titling of custom-built motorcycles.","body":"(1) As used in KRS 186A.115 and this section, \"custom -built motorcycle\" means a\nmotorcycle as defined in KRS 186.010(15) that has been built from one hundred\npercent (100%) new parts to the individual specifications of:\n(a) The individual who built the motorcy cle who will personally use the\nmotorcycle;\n(b) A specific known prospective owner of the motorcycle who is purchasing the\nmotorcycle at retail; or\n(c) A person engaged in the business of building and selling motorcycles who is\nbuilding the motorcycle for purposes of retail sale to an unknown buyer.\n(2) A person who has either personally custom-built a motorcycle or who has purchased\na custom-built motorcycle shall be issued a first certificate of title after complying\nwith the provisions of this subsection . The person shall, prior to applying for the\ncertificate of title, apply to the Transportation Cabinet for a vehicle identification\nnumber under the provisions of KRS 186A.090. When applying for a first\ncertificate of title for a custom -built motorcycle, the person shall apply in the office\nof the county clerk of the county in which he or she resides and provide the clerk\nwith the following:\n(a) Written documentation authenticating that one hundred percent (100%) of the\nparts used to assemble the custom -built motorcycle are new parts purchased\nfrom either a wholesale or retail supplier that have never been used;\n(b) Proof of insurance to comply with the provisions of KRS 304.39-080; and\n(c) Other information that may be required by the Transportation Cabine t in an\nadministrative regulation promulgated under KRS Chapter 13A. If the cabinet\nfails to promulgate an administrative regulation governing custom -built\nmotorcycles, the only documentation a person applying for a first certificate of\ntitle for a custom -built motorcycle shall be required to present to the county\nclerk is the information required under paragraphs (a) and (b) of this\nsubsection.\n(3) The Transportation Cabinet shall not classify a custom-built motorcycle as a salvage\nor rebuilt vehicle and s hall not subject a custom -built motorcycle to the provisions\nof this chapter governing salvage or rebuilt vehicles.","path":["KRS Chapter 186A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=6145","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:39Z","sha256":"f7a8efc0097a8ae0472ff29de02739368d36699719aaeb60a9c8922cca1881f0","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186a.070","next":"us-ky/krs-186a.073"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
