{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186a.090","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186A.090","heading":"Owner to secure proper vehicle identification number from department.","body":"(1) The owner of a vehicle required to be titled or registered in this state which:\n(a) Does not have a legitimate vehicle identification number as affixed by a\nmanufacturer regularly engaged in the original manufacture of the type vehicle\nfor which registrati on is sought, or in accordance with the law of this or\nanother state; or\n(b) Has been built from parts;\nshall, before making application for registration of the vehicle, apply to the\nDepartment of Vehicle Regulation for issuance of a vehicle identificatio n number\nplate, which shall be affixed to the vehicle in the manner prescribed by\nadministrative regulations of the Department of Vehicle Regulation.\n(2) The Department of Vehicle Regulation shall establish, in cooperation with the\nDepartment of Kentucky State Police, regulations governing the form of application\nrequired by this section, and may require inspection of the vehicle before a vehicle\nidentification number plate has been issued and after such plate has been affixed to\nthe vehicle.","path":["KRS Chapter 186A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=6150","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:39Z","sha256":"e4135e222333b6cdc53fefb04de2f95e0258029caf8603125d5dc0d8823d9310","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186a.085","next":"us-ky/krs-186a.095"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
