(Effective until January 1, 2027)","body":"(1) If a certificate of title is lost, stolen, mutilated, or destroyed or becomes illegible,\nthe owner or legal representative of the owner named in the certificate shall\npromptly make application to the county clerk for and may obtain a duplicate, upon\nfurnishing information satisfactory to the Department of Vehicle Regulation. The\nduplicate certificate of title shall contain appropriate words or symbols to indicate\nthat it is a duplicate. Each application for a duplicate certificate of title shall be six\ndollars ($6), of which the county clerk shall retain four dollars ($4), and the\nTransportation Cabinet two dollars ($2). Each application for a duplicate certificate\nof title for an all-terrain vehicle shall be ten dollars ($10), of which the county clerk\nshall retain four dollars ($4) and the Transportation Cabinet shall receive six dollars\n($6). It shall be mailed to the owner.\n(2) The Department of Vehicle Regulation sha ll make provisions for production and\nissuance of a duplicate title if update of information is requested. The provisions\nshall be generally consistent with the procedures for production and issuance of a\ncertificate of title in the first instance as provided in this chapter.\n(3) A person recovering an original certificate of title for which a duplicate has been\nissued shall promptly surrender the original certificate to the Department of Vehicle\nRegulation.\n(4) Application for documents provided for by thi s section shall be made to the county\nclerk upon forms provided to him by the Department of Vehicle Regulation.\nEffective: June 25, 2009","path":["KRS Chapter 186A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=6185","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:40Z","sha256":"ea784bd895475b68d59bc442889cac3e333167fad780fe47c1c2beea85a66fc3","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186a.240","next":"us-ky/krs-186a.250"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
