Possession of manufacturer's identification number plates prohibited --","body":"Exceptions.\n(1) No person shall have in his possession a manufacturer's vehicle identification\nnumber plate unless it is attached to the vehicle, or vehicle part, to which it w as\noriginally affixed by the manufacturer, nor shall any person have any facsimile of\nsuch a plate.\n(2) This section shall not prohibit possession of legitimate plates by persons:\n(a) Whose possession is incident to a contract to supply them to a manufacturer of\nnew motor vehicles, or when such plates are in the possession of a\nmanufacturer of new vehicles, or such manufacturer's employee, who\npossesses them within the scope of his work when his work involved the\nmanufacture or storage of such plates, for l egitimate placement upon newly\nmanufactured vehicles, legitimate affixing of such plates upon newly\nmanufactured vehicles, or legitimate affixing of a replacement plate.\n(b) Who possess such plate immediately incident to transferring it from being\nlegitimately attached to a wrecked part or portion of a vehicle to a replacement\npart or portion for installation on, or installed on, the same vehicle on which\nthe plate was originally placed by the manufacturer, when such possession and\ntransfer is authorized in writing by the Department of Vehicle Regulation.\n(c) Who are authorized in writing, by the commissioner of the Department of\nVehicle Regulation under the provisions of KRS 186.1911 to possess such\nplates.","path":["KRS Chapter 186A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=6200","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:40Z","sha256":"c24dc2144cdede161c6392b1b3ae88e1c2cd45aec0cf1d0989efac9c3a8ea0b2","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186a.310","next":"us-ky/krs-186a.320"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
