{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-186a.990","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 186A.990","heading":"Penalties.","body":"(1) Any person who knowingly gives false, fraudulent, or erroneous information in\nconnection with an application for the registration, and when required, titling of a\nvehicle, or any application for assignment of a vehicle identification number, or\nreplacement documents, or gives information in connection with his or her review\nof applications, or falsely certifies the truthfulness and accuracy of information\nsupplied in connection with the registration and when required, titling of a vehicle,\nshall be guilty of forgery in the second degree.\n(2) Any person who violates KRS 186A.260 or KRS 186A.275 to 186A.285 shall be\nguilty of a Class D felony.\n(3) Any person who violates KRS 186A.300 to 186A.315 shall be guilty of a Class D\nfelony.\n(4) (a) Any person who operates a motor vehicle or trailer upon the highways of this\nstate without a temporary tag when one is required, or with one that is\nexpired, improperly executed, or displayed on a vehicle other than the one (1)\nto which it was legitimately and lawfully issued , shall be guilty of a Class B\nmisdemeanor.\n(b) Any person who steals, fraudulently produces, copies, or acquires a temporary\ntag in a manner not authorized under this chapter shall be guilty of a Class D\nfelony.\n(5) Any person who violates the disclosure provisions of KRS 186A.530(8) shall be\nguilty of a Class A misdemeanor.\n(6) Any person who violates any provisions of this chapter, or regulations promulgated\npursuant thereto, and for which a specific penalty is not prescribed by statute, shall\nbe guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.\n(7) Criminal remedies or sanctions provided in this chapter are in addition to, and not\nexclusive of, any other criminal remedies or sanctions provided elsewhere in the\nstatutes.\n(8) Any person who intentionally or willfully divulges his, her, or another person's\ncertified inspector number to any person other than those designated individuals\nwithin the offices of the sheriff, county clerk, or other state office, except in the\ncourse o f his or her official assigned duties, shall be guilty of a Class A\nmisdemeanor.\n(9) Any person who intentionally or willfully sells his, her, or another person's certified\ninspector number to any person or persons shall be guilty of a Class D felony.\n(10) A motor vehicle dealer, salesperson, or agent who violates subsection (4) of this\nsection or KRS 186A.100, 186A.105, or 186A.110 shall, in addition to the penalties\nprescribed in this section, be subject to the penalties in KRS 190.990.","path":["KRS Chapter 186A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56227","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:40Z","sha256":"a058c523ec9f3fca46273581aba0ec518bb8782c651d9f105911c2270b5404e7","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-186a.555","next":"us-ky/krs-187.010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
