{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-189.2851","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 189.2851","heading":"Operation, titling, registration, and insuring of motor scooters --","body":"Headgear requirements.\n(1) As used in this section, \"motor scooter\" has the same meaning as in KRS 186.010.\n(2) A person may operate a motor scooter on a highway if the operat or has a valid\nmotorcycle operator's license or motorcycle instructional permit in his or her\npossession.\n(3) A motor scooter operating on a highway is considered to be a motorcycle as defined\nin KRS 186.010 and shall be titled in accordance with KRS Chapt er 186A and\nregistered as a motorcycle in accordance with KRS 186.050(2).\n(4) A motor scooter operating on a highway shall be insured in compliance with KRS\n304.39-110 by the owner or operator, and the proof of insurance shall be in\npossession of the operator at all times of operation on a highway.\n(5) A person operating a motor scooter on a highway shall comply with the traffic\nregulations of this chapter, meet the same equipment standards as those for\nmotorcycles in this chapter, and shall be subject to t he provisions of KRS Chapter\n189A.\n(6) A person operating a motor scooter shall be subject to the protective headgear\nrequirements of KRS 189.285.","path":["KRS Chapter 189"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=48630","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:42Z","sha256":"e606df9da8ac2d5f537c4d6ea2e93bf22b5f03efe3e68b9eddf2bcf074541cd1","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-189.285","next":"us-ky/krs-189.286"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
