{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-189.336","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 189.336","heading":"Installation of flasher lights near schools -- Speed limits.","body":"(1) Fiscal courts, with respect to school zones situated in unincorporated areas, may\nauthorize by resolution installation at county expense of school flasher lights and\nother traffic control devices on highways in school zones as they deem reasonable\nand necessary.\n(2) Cities, with respect to school zones within their incorporated areas, may authorize\nby ordinance installation at city expense of school flasher lights and other traffic\ncontrol devices on highways in school zones as they deem reasonable and\nnecessary.\n(3) The speed limit on all highways where school flasher lights are in operation shall be\ndetermined by the governmental unit having control of the highway where a school\nflasher light is in operation. Flasher lights shall be placed one -eighth (1/8) of a mile\non each side of the principal school building where practical. The governmental unit\nhaving control of the highway where the lights are in operation shall erect signs\nnotifying motorists of the speed limit.\n(4) \"Highways\" as used in this sect ion shall mean any public road or street maintained\nby a city, county or the state.\n(5) Any traffic control devices erected by any governmental unit shall conform to\nstandards and specifications authorized by KRS 189.337.","path":["KRS Chapter 189"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=6372","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:42Z","sha256":"e9201f43437d0096f40a39b2d148c3d373ad4398c74ff7178018d0cbfe900f3b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-189.335","next":"us-ky/krs-189.337"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
