{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-189.910","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 189.910","heading":"Definitions for KRS 189.920 to 189.950.","body":"(1) As used in KRS 189.920 to 189.950, \"emergency vehicle\" means any vehicle used\nfor emergency purposes by:\n(a) The Department of Kentucky State Police;\n(b) A public police department;\n(c) The Department of Corrections;\n(d) A sheriff's office;\n(e) A rescue squad;\n(f) An emergency management agency if it is a publicly owned vehicle;\n(g) A licensed ambulance service, mobile integrated healthcare program, or\nmedical first response provider licensed by the Kentucky Board of Emergency\nMedical Services, for any vehi cle used to respond to emergencies or to\ntransport a patient with a critical medical condition;\n(h) Any vehicle commandeered by a police officer;\n(i) Any vehicle with the emergency lights required under KRS 189.920 used by a\npaid or volunteer fireman or pa id or volunteer ambulance personnel, or a paid\nor local emergency management director while responding to an emergency\nor to a location where an emergency vehicle is on emergency call;\n(j) An elected coroner granted permission to equip a publicly or privately owned\nmotor vehicle with lights and siren pursuant to KRS 189.920;\n(k) A deputy coroner granted permission to equip a publicly or privately owned\nmotor vehicle with lights and siren pursuant to KRS 189.920;\n(l) Any vehicle used by an organ procurement organization while transporting a\nhuman organ or tissue for the purpose of organ recovery or transplantation in\nan emergency situation involving an imminent health risk; or\n(m) A game warden of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.\n(2) As used in KRS 189.920 to 189.950, \"public safety vehicle\" means public utility\nrepair vehicle; wreckers; state, county, or municipal service vehicles and\nequipment; highway equipment which p erforms work that requires stopping and\nstanding or moving at slow speeds within the traveled portions of highways; and\nvehicles which are escorting wide-load or slow-moving trailers or trucks.","path":["KRS Chapter 189"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55371","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:44Z","sha256":"a6c172dd51d2101a14ede6e553b73a6ff3a452e10f562b8d3f79ad79d9125721","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-189.860","next":"us-ky/krs-189.920"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
