{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-18a.2256","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 18A.2256","heading":"TRICARE supplement insurance for public employees.","body":"(1) The provisions of this section shall take effect to the extent that they are not\npreempted by 10 U.S.C. sec. 1097c, other federal law, or federal regulation.\n(2) As used in this section:\n(a) \"TRICARE\" means the Department of Defense health care program for  active\nduty and retired uniformed service members and their families; and\n(b) \"Employee\" has the same meaning as in KRS 18A.225.\n(3) Beginning with plan year 2009, the Personnel Cabinet, Department of Employee\nInsurance, shall select and contract with one  (1) or more providers to offer a group\nTRICARE supplement product to eligible employees who are eligible TRICARE\nbeneficiaries.\n(4) The Commonwealth of Kentucky shall pay the cost of individual TRICARE\nsupplement insurance to cover the employee, not to ex ceed the cost of the lowest -\npriced individual plan offered to public employees. The employee shall pay the cost\nof coverage for his or her spouse and dependent children.\n(5) Those employees eligible for TRICARE insurance who elect the Commonwealth of\nKentucky-sponsored TRICARE supplement insurance shall not be eligible for other\ncoverage offered through the Public Employee Health Insurance Program. Those\nemployees eligible for TRICARE insurance who choose not to elect the\nCommonwealth of Kentucky -sponsored TRICARE supplement insurance shall\ncontinue to be eligible for the coverage offered through the Public Employee Health\nInsurance Program.\n(6) The secretary of the Personnel Cabinet may promulgate administrative regulations\nto carry out the provisions of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 18A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=40099","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:40Z","sha256":"bec8dc909dd9be3714425d4c532908c17a418aa1001da26eb4638fa1437be0f5","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-18a.2255","next":"us-ky/krs-18a.2257"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
