{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-190.085","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 190.085","heading":"Civic event license plate.","body":"(1) A vehicle which has been donated or loaned by a licensed motor vehicle dealer for\nuse in a civic event may be operated during preparation for and during the civic\nevent with a civic event license plate.\n(2) Application for approval of the use of a civic ev ent license plate shall be made to\nthe Department of Vehicle Regulation on forms prescribed and furnished by the\ndepartment at least sixty (60) days prior to the event. The licensed motor vehicle\ndealer in his application shall provide the name of the even t for which the motor\nvehicles will be used, date and duration of the event, the number of vehicles to be\nloaned or donated and other information required by the Department of Vehicle\nRegulation. The application shall be accompanied by five dollars ($5) for each civic\nevent license plate applied for. The commissioner of the Department of Vehicle\nRegulation shall approve or deny the use of the license plate within thirty (30) days\nafter receiving the application and inform the dealer as to his decision.\n(3) At least ten (10) days prior to the date approved for the use of civic event license\nplate, the motor vehicle dealer shall provide to the department the vehicle\nidentification number for each vehicle which is anticipated to be lent or donated to\nthe civic event.\n(4) Any motor vehicle bearing a civic event license plate authorized by subsection (1)\nof this section shall be restricted to use in providing services for events for which\napproval is granted. The services may include, but not be limited to, parade s,\ntransportation of visitors or dignitaries to and from event activities, use by event\npersonnel or event volunteers and any other activity for which a vehicle may be\nrequired in the furtherance of the civic event.\n(5) The use of the civic event license p late shall be limited to the time set forth in the\napproved application. A copy of the approved application shall be carried in the\nvehicle at all times. When the civic event license plate expires, the dealer shall\nremove the plate and return it to the Dep artment of Vehicle Regulation. The vehicle\nshall then be registered in a manner required by KRS Chapter 186. A misuse of\ncivic event license plates shall be deemed a violation of the motor vehicle dealer's\nlicense.\n(6) The Department of Vehicle Regulation may promulgate administrative regulations\nto implement this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 190"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=6559","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:45Z","sha256":"59f2d4ea34410e6e2c58d7cdd46d85759475e2288bf1ff01b9cc6f13766d9859","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-190.080","next":"us-ky/krs-190.090"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
