{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-194a.7203","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 194A.7203","heading":"Person -centered care approach for dementia -trained staff -- Staffing","body":"levels -- Emergencies -- Staff trainer experience requirements -- Methods of\ninstruction.\n(1) An assisted living community with dementia care shall assign dementia-trained staff\nwho have been instructed in the person -centered care approach for all residents. All\ndirect care staff assigned to care for residents with dementia shall be trained to work\nwith residents with Alzheimer's disease and other related dementia illnesses  and\ndisorders.\n(2) Only staff trained as required by KRS 194A.7205 shall be assigned to care for\ndementia residents.\n(3) Staffing levels shall be sufficient to meet the scheduled needs of residents. During\nnighttime hours, staffing levels shall be based o n the sleep patterns and needs of\nresidents.\n(4) In an emergency and when trained staff are not available, the assisted living\ncommunity may assign staff who have not completed the required training. The\nemergency situation shall be documented and shall address:\n(a) The nature of the emergency;\n(b) The duration of the emergency; and\n(c) The names and positions of staff who provided coverage and assistance.\n(5) The licensee shall ensure that staff who provide support for residents with dementia\ndemonstrate a  basic understanding and ability to apply dementia training to the\nresidents' emotional and unique health care needs using person -centered planning\ndelivery.\n(6) Persons in charge of staff training shall have the following experience and\ncredentials:\n(a) Two (2) years of combined education and work experience related to\nAlzheimer's disease or other dementia illnesses and disorders, or in health\ncare, gerontology, or another related field;\n(b) Completion of training equivalent to the requirements in KRS 194A .7205;\nand\n(c) A passing score on a skills competency or knowledge test the licensee selected\nor developed.\n(7) Orientation and in -service training may include various methods of instruction,\nincluding but not limited to classroom style, Web -based training, video, or one -to-\none training. The licensee shall use a method for determining and documenting each\nstaff person's knowledge and understanding of the training provided.
