{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-196.030","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 196.030","heading":"Functions of Department of Corrections.","body":"(1) The department shall, unless otherwise provided by law, exercise all functions of\nthe state in relation to:\n(a) Management of penal, reform, and correctional institutions;\n(b) Supervision of probation and parole;\n(c) The giving of assistance to other departments, agencies, and institutions of the\nstate and federal government when requested by performing services in\nconformity with this section;\n(d) Acting as the agent of the federal government in matters of mutual concern,\nand in the administration of any f ederal funds granted to the state to aid in the\nperformance of any function of this department;\n(e) Administration and enforcement of the provisions of KRS Chapter 441\nrelating to the development and enforcement of jail standards, training of\njailers and jail personnel, and jail planning and construction.\n(2) Notwithstanding other provisions to the contrary, the Department of Corrections\nmay contract with a county fiscal court or local or regional correctional authority to\nhouse misdemeanants and persons awaiting trial or sentencing.\n(3) The provisions of this section shall not apply to any institution, home, or agency\nwhich does not receive aid from the state, a county, or municipality.","path":["KRS Chapter 196"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=6779","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:48Z","sha256":"d79898ddc1df967a059e8bc310a155051f7285d30b7cc9ee17505903555ab7c9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-196.026","next":"us-ky/krs-196.031"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
