{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-196.037","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 196.037","heading":"Department personnel to have powers of peace officers.","body":"(1) All personnel of the department, while acting for the department in any capacity\nentailing the maintenance of custody over any prisoners, shall have all the authority\nand powers of peace officers.\n(2) All department personnel who are officially requested b y a law enforcement agency\nin a county of Kentucky or by the Department of Kentucky State Police to assist in\nthe apprehension of a prisoner who has escaped from the legal or physical custody\nof the Department of Corrections or a detention facility of the Department of\nCorrections shall possess, while responding to and for the duration of the matter for\nwhich the request was made, the same powers of arrest as peace officers.\n(3) Probation and parole officers, while acting for the department in any capacity\nentailing the maintenance of custody or supervision of any confined prisoner,\nparoled prisoner, escaped prisoner, probationer, or other person otherwise placed\nunder their supervision shall have all the authority and powers of peace officers.\n(4) Internal affairs officers and supervisors of the department, while investigating any\nperson in connection with an offense involving personnel of the department,\nemployee of any contractor providing services to the department, confined prisoner,\nparoled prisoner, es caped prisoner, probationer, or other person otherwise placed\nunder the supervision of the department, shall have all the authority and powers of\npeace officers.","path":["KRS Chapter 196"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=44694","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:48Z","sha256":"81c5a42160dc1a3924dc79f1e0a9fe80b7418bc0f2d0d1ae19dbb4eccb7f5e21","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-196.035","next":"us-ky/krs-196.040"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
