{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-196.160","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 196.160","heading":"Appointment of personnel for each institution -- Dress and grooming","body":"requirements -- Contributions to hazardous duty retirement program --\nCareer retention program.\n(1) The commissioner shall appoint a warden, a receiver, and other necessary\nemployees for each of the state penal and correctional institutions. The\ncompensation of these officers and employees may include maintenance. The\ncommissioner may require these officers and employees to wear uniforms and to\nadopt, amend, or rescind administrative r egulations governing dress and grooming\nstandards of these uniformed officers and employees.\n(2) The department shall make the contributions required by KRS 61.592 for\nparticipation in the hazardous duty retirement program by its employees in those\npositions in state correctional institutions and the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric\nCenter with duties that regularly and routinely require face -to-face contact with\ninmates.\n(3) For those employees included in subsection (2) of this section and those whose\nprimary workplace is a state correctional institution or the Kentucky Correctional\nPsychiatric Center, the department shall institute a career retention program,\nincluding salary improvements earned through extended time in qualifying public\nservice. Salary improvements shall be effected by increasing the base salary of each\nemployee in the career retention program by a set monthly amount after the\nemployee's completion of the first two (2), four (4), six (6), eight (8), and ten (10)\nyears of employment served after, and not prior to, July 1, 2002. The amount of the\nbase salary increase to be awarded an employee after the employee's completion of\na qualifying amount of public service under this subsection shall be as set out in the\nexecutive branch budget for each biennium following the 2002-2004 biennium in an\namount calculated to recruit and retain qualified correctional personnel.
