{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-196.173","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 196.173","heading":"Pregnant inmates housed in jail, penitentiary, local or state correctional or","body":"detention facility, residential center, or reentry center -- Permissible and\nimpermissible restraints.\n(1) Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section, a n inmate housed in a jail,\npenitentiary, or local or state correctional or detention facility, residential center, or\nreentry center who is known to be pregnant shall be restrained solely with\nhandcuffs in front of her body unless further restraint is requ ired to protect herself\nor others.\n(2) (a) Except in an extraordinary circumstance, no inmate who is known to be\npregnant shall be restrained during labor, during transport to a medical facility\nor freestanding birthing center for delivery, or during postpartum recovery.\n(b) As used in this subsection, \"extraordinary circumstance\" means that\nreasonable grounds exist to believe the inmate presents an immediate and\ncredible:\n1. Serious threat of hurting herself, staff, or others; or\n2.
