{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-197.210","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 197.210","heading":"Purchases of prison -made products by state agencies and political","body":"subdivisions.\n(1) (a) On and after June 17, 1954, all offices, departments, institutions, agencies,\nand all political subdivisions which are supported in whole or in part by the\nCommonwealth shall purchase, when economically feasible, from the\ndepartment all articles or products required which are produced or\nmanufactured by prison labor, as provided by KRS 197.200 to 197.250. No\narticle or product shall be purchased by any office, depar tment, institution, or\nagency, from any source except as specified in this subsection.\n(b) Exceptions may be made in any case where, in the opinion of the Finance and\nAdministration Cabinet, the articles or products produced or manufactured do\nnot meet the reasonable requirements of the offices, departments, institutions,\nagencies, or where the requisition cannot be reasonably complied with\nbecause of an insufficient supply of the articles or products required.\nHowever, no office, department, institution, o r agency shall be allowed to\nevade the intent and meaning of KRS 197.200 to 197.250 by slight variations\nfrom standards adopted by the Office of Material and Procurement Services\nwithin the Office of the Controller, when the articles or products produced o r\nmanufactured by the department in accordance with the standards, are\nreasonably adapted to the actual needs of the office, department, institution, or\nagency.\n(2) All purchases under KRS 197.200 to 197.250 shall be made through the Finance\nand Administration Cabinet upon requisition by the proper authority of the office,\ndepartment, institution, agency, or political subdivision of the Commonwealth.","path":["KRS Chapter 197"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=6889","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:50Z","sha256":"6fe16f11546803b571ffc043cdf74d946b27e68df44560930227d142002d0c34","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-197.200","next":"us-ky/krs-197.220"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
