{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-198b.610","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 198B.610","heading":"License as proof of competency  -- Power of local officials regarding","body":"regulation.\n(1) If a licensed fire protection sprinkler contractor desires to do business in any\npart of the state, he or she shall deliver to the local building official a copy of his\nor her fire protection sprinkler contractor's license and comply with KRS\n198B.560 and 198B.565. The local building official shall require a copy of the\nlicense before issuing a license or building license, and no local official shall\nimpose  any other competency requirements on the licensed fire protection\nsprinkler contractor.\n(2) Nothing in KRS  198B.560 and 198B.565 shall limit the power of a city,\nurban-county government, county, or state to regulate the quality and character\nof work performed by contractors, through a system of permits, fees and\ninspections which are designed to assure compliance with, and aid in the\nimplementation of state and local building laws or to enforce other local laws\nfor the protection of the public health and safety. Nothing in KRS  198B.560 and\n198B.565 shall limit the power of a city, urban-county government, county, or\nthe state to adopt any system of permits requiring submission to and approval\nby  the city, urban-county government, county, or the state of plans and\nspecifications for work to be performed by contractors before commencement\nof the work. The official authorized to issue building or other related permits\nshall ascertain that the fire protection sprinkler contractor is duly licensed by\nrequiring evidence of a valid fire protection sprinkler contractor's license as a\nprerequisite to that contractor beginning design, installation, repair, alteration,\nextension, maintenance, or inspection of fire protection sprinkler systems.\n(3) KRS  198B.560 and 198B.565 shall apply to any fire protection sprinkler\ncontractor performing work for any city, urban-county government, special\ndistrict, county, or the state. Officials of any city, urban-county government,\nspecial district, county, or the state shall determine compliance with KRS\n198B.560  and 198B.565 before awarding any contracts for the installation,\nrepair, alteration, addition, or inspection of a fire protection sprinkler system.\nBids for such work shall be accompanied by a copy of a valid fire protection\nsprinkler contractor's license.","path":["KRS Chapter 198B"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=46931","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:52Z","sha256":"ef46618f96be753225ecaf1b5178f0d13e564533198f386153187eca1af0d718","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-198b.605","next":"us-ky/krs-198b.615"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
