{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-198b.6405","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 198B.6405","heading":"Initial annual certification -- Renewal, expiration, termination, and","body":"reinstatement of certification.\n(1) The initial annual certification for a fire sprinkler inspector shall be for not less\nthan seven (7) months nor more than eighteen (18) months.\n(2) A  fire sprinkler inspector certification issued in accordance with this chapter\nshall expire on the last day of the inspector's birth month in the year following\ncertification.\n(3) Renewal  notices shall be sent to each certified inspector at least sixty (60)\ndays prior to the expiration of his or her certification. The notice shall:\n(a) Inform the certified inspector of the need to renew the certification; and\n(b) Describe the materials to be submitted with a request for renewal.\n(4) An applicant for renewal of a fire sprinkler inspector certification shall:\n(a) Complete  and submit the fire sprinkler inspector's written or electronic\nrenewal form as provided by the department;\n(b) Show  proof of general liability insurance in the amount required by this\nchapter; and\n(c) 1. Provide proof of completion of six (6) hours of continuing education\nprior to certification renewal. The required continuing education shall\nbe accrued within the twelve (12) months prior to renewal; or\n2. Submit proof that the inspector is a current and valid holder of\nNICET  certification in the testing of water-based systems.\n(5) A thirty (30) day grace period shall be allowed after the renewal deadline of the\ncertification. A fire sprinkler inspector may continue to practice during this grace\nperiod and may renew his or her certification upon meeting the requirements\npromulgated through administrative regulation by the department.\n(6) Any  certification not renewed on or before the last day of the thirty (30) day\ngrace  period shall terminate based  upon  failure to timely renew  the\ncertification. Upon termination of a certification, the individual shall not inspect\nwithin the Commonwealth.\n(7) After expiration of the thirty (30) day grace period, a formerly certified fire\nsprinkler inspector with a terminated certification shall have the certification\nreinstated upon meeting the requirements promulgated through administrative\nregulation by the department. An applicant for reinstatement after termination\nof his or her certification shall not be required to submit to any examination as\ncondition for reinstatement, if the reinstatement application is made within two\n(2) years from the date of certification termination.\n(8) After termination and two (2) years, the applicant shall retest and comply with\nthe application requirements set forth in KRS 198B.6401.","path":["KRS Chapter 198B"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=46934","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:52Z","sha256":"8e8d3ce85b0740f9b547f031ec6909cdd320f8e03f237f44ec66f7f476806f6f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-198b.6403","next":"us-ky/krs-198b.6407"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
