{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-2.240","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 2.240","heading":"Organ Donor Awareness Week.","body":"(1) The fourth week of April of each year is designated as Organ Donor Awareness\nWeek, and the Governor shall annually issue a proclamation inviting and urging the\npeople of the Commonwealth to be involved with appropriate activities. This\nobservance is create d to educate the citizens of the Commonwealth about the\nimportance of organ donation.\n(2) As part of Organ Donor Awareness Week, the Governor and the House of\nRepresentatives and the Senate of the General Assembly shall honor those persons\nwho have donated  organs and surviving family members with a ceremony in the\nCapitol rotunda. Each person who has donated an organ shall be recognized\ncollectively by citation and, upon request, the person or the person's family shall be\ngiven a copy of the citation. The G overnor may establish an organ donor honor\nboard to collect the name of each person, subject to the person's consent, who\ndonates an organ in the Commonwealth during the year, and to recognize medical\nprofessionals, educators, volunteers, public employees,  and private organizations\nthat are involved with the organ donation process. Nothing in this section shall be\nconstrued to require reporting of the name of any person involved with the organ\ndonation process or to supersede patient confidentiality protect ions established by\nstatute, the Board of Medical Licensure or other state entity, or the Federal Health\nInsurance Portability and Accountability Act.\n(3) Education efforts are encouraged to focus on the importance of organ donation and\nits significance wi th saving the lives of Kentuckians. The Cabinet for Health and\nFamily Services is encouraged to develop and circulate materials relating to organ\ndonation, including but not limited to:\n(a) The benefits of living organ donation; and\n(b) The impact of livin g organ donation on the access of a living organ donor to\ninsurance, including the protections set forth in KRS 304.12-087.","path":["KRS Chapter 2"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=51013","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:21Z","sha256":"3d71931a548f8d9684986247483f2693649cd9c73ab86e3ae4bac40a78dfe31b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-2.237","next":"us-ky/krs-2.245"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
