{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-209a.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 209A.020","heading":"Definitions for chapter.","body":"As used in this chapter, unless the context otherwise requires:\n(1) \"Cabinet\" means the Cabinet for Health and Family Services;\n(2) \"Dating violence and abuse\" has the same meaning as in KRS 456.010;\n(3) \"Domestic violence and abuse\" has the same meaning as in KRS 403.720;\n(4) \"Law enforcement officer\" means a member  of a lawfully organized police unit\nor police force of county, city, or metropolitan government who is responsible\nfor the detection of crime and the enforcement of the general criminal laws of\nthe state, as well as a sheriff, sworn deputy sheriff, campus police officer, law\nenforcement support personnel, public airport authority security officer, other\npublic and federal peace officer responsible for law enforcement, special local\npeace  officer appointed pursuant to KRS  61.360, school resource officer as\ndefined in KRS 158.441, and any other enforcement officer as defined by law;\n(5) \"Professional\" means  a physician, osteopathic physician, coroner, medical\nexaminer, medical resident, medical intern, chiropractor, nurse, dentist,\noptometrist, emergency medical technician, paramedic, licensed mental health\nprofessional, therapist, cabinet employee, child-care personnel, teacher, school\npersonnel, ordained minister or the denominational equivalent, victim advocate,\nor any organization or agency employing any of these professionals;\n(6) \"Victim\" means an individual who is or has been abused by a spouse or former\nspouse  or an intimate partner who meets the definition of a member  of an\nunmarried couple as defined in KRS  403.720, or a member  of a dating\nrelationship as defined in KRS 456.010; and\n(7) \"Victim advocate\" has the same meaning as in KRS 421.570.","path":["KRS Chapter 209A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=48487","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:10Z","sha256":"322562896565ce9085c12944dd57ffe31c54f29c3c7588c93b7484881c468498","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-209a.010","next":"us-ky/krs-209a.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
