{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-211.341","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 211.341","heading":"Statewide system for heart attack response and treatment -- Care levels","body":"and standards.\n(1) The department shall establish and implement a plan for achieving continuous\nquality improvement in the quality of care provided under a statewide syst em for\nheart attack response and treatment by designating licensed hospitals as:\n(a) Level I Comprehensive Cardiac Center;\n(b) Level II Primary Heart Attack Center; or\n(c) Level III Acute Heart Attack Ready.\n(2) A hospital may apply to the department in or der to be recognized as Level I\nComprehensive Cardiac Center, Level II Primary Heart Attack Center, or Level III\nAcute Heart Attack Ready hospital. If a hospital applies for recognition, it shall\ndemonstrate, to the satisfaction of the department, that the  hospital meets the\napplicable criteria set forth in KRS 211.340 to 211.343.\n(3) (a) A Level I Comprehensive Cardiac Center is a hospital that is certified as a\nComprehensive Cardiac Center hospital by any certifying body which is a\nnationally recognized g uidelines-based organization that provides\ncomprehensive cardiac center certification for heart attack care. Each hospital\nshall maintain an active certification.\n(b) The department shall recognize any hospital as a Level I Comprehensive\nCardiac Center if it meets the criteria established in this subsection.\n(4) (a) A Level II Primary Heart Attack Center is a hospital that is certified as a\nPrimary Heart Attack Center by any certifying body which is a nationally\nrecognized guidelines -based organization that  provides primary heart attack\ncenter certification for heart attack care. Each hospital shall maintain an active\ncertification.\n(b) The department shall recognize any hospital as a Level II Primary Heart\nAttack Center if it meets the criteria established in this subsection.\n(5) (a) A Level III Acute Heart Attack Ready hospital is a hospital that is certified as\nAcute Heart Attack Ready by any certifying body which is a nationally\nrecognized guidelines -based organization that provides acute heart attack\nready certification for heart attack care. Each hospital shall maintain an active\ncertification.\n(b) The department shall recognize any hospital as a Level III Acute Heart Attack\nCenter if it meets the criteria established in this subsection.\n(6) Level I Comprehensive Cardiac Centers, Level II Primary Heart Attack Centers, and\nLevel III Acute Heart Attack Ready hospitals are encouraged to coordinate, through\na coordinating heart attack care agreement, within their service area to provide\nappropriate access to care for acute heart attack patients. A coordinating heart attack\ncare agreement shall be in writing and include at a minimum:\n(a) Transfer protocols for the transport and acceptance of heart attack patients for\ntreatment therapies which the transferring facility is not capable of providing;\nand\n(b) Communication criteria and protocols that include but are not limited to\ntelemedicine systems.\n(7) The department may suspend or revoke a hospital's designation as Level I\nComprehensive Cardiac Center, Level II Primary Heart Attack Center, or Level III\nAcute Heart Attack Ready if the department determines that the hospital is not in\ncompliance with the requirements of KRS 211.340 to 211.343.","path":["KRS Chapter 211"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=52795","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:12Z","sha256":"9bf201da97b8a57f84010205442344a582072e3c29fda2cbadd5eeee8a5cf2ae","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-211.340","next":"us-ky/krs-211.342"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
