{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-211.635","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 211.635","heading":"Osteoporosis prevention and education program -- Public education --","body":"Powers of department.\n(1) The Department for Public Health shall establish, promote, and maintain a\nstatewide multigenerational osteoporosis prevention and education program using\navailable federal funds, state funds appropriated for that purpose, and other\navailable funding. The program shall:\n(a) Promote the public awareness of the causes of osteoporosis, options for\nprevention, the value of early detection, and treatment; and\n(b) Increase health care provider awareness of national clinical guidelines related\nto the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis.\n(2) The public education component of the program created in subsection (1) of this\nsection shall include but not be limited to:\n(a) The cause and nature of osteoporosis;\n(b) Risk factors;\n(c) The role of oophorectomy and hysterectomy in the development of\nosteoporosis;\n(d) The prevention of osteoporosis, including nutrition, physical exercise, and\nweight;\n(e) Diagnostic procedures and appropriate indications for their use;\n(f) The risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapy;\n(g) Environment safety and injury prevention; and\n(h) Availability of osteoporosis treatment services in the community.\n(3) The department ma y consult, contract, or establish a cooperative relationship with\nlocal health departments, the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture\nCooperative Extension Service, libraries, and community organizations to carry out\nthe requirements of subsections (1) and (2) of this section.\n(4) The department may use existing publications, the Department for Public Health\nWeb site, and the Kentucky e -Health Network to promote health care provider\nawareness of clinical practice guidelines related to the prevention , diagnosis, and\ntreatment of osteoporosis.","path":["KRS Chapter 211"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=8447","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:13Z","sha256":"bd4fd642928b0ec6b2978ba237ad710d656c6725c9a82873b9c7acfa6d96a4cb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-211.630","next":"us-ky/krs-211.640"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
