{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-211.894","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 211.894","heading":"Conditions for relinquishing of ownership of low -level nuclear waste","body":"disposal site -- Commonwealth policy as to sites or facilities -- Contracts or\nagreements with federal government.\n(1) The Governor, the secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Famil y Services, the\nsecretary of the Energy and Environment Cabinet or any other state agency shall not\nenter into a contract or an agreement of any kind with the federal government\nrelinquishing ownership of a low -level nuclear waste disposal site located in the\nCommonwealth without prior approval of a majority of the members of the\nKentucky House of Representatives and a majority of the members of the Kentucky\nSenate.\n(2) It shall be the policy of the Commonwealth to retain final authority for approving or\ndisapproving the locating, opening, closing, or reopening of a nuclear waste\ndisposal site or facility within its borders.\n(3) The Governor or appropriate state agencies may enter into contracts and agreements\nwith the federal government relating to nuclear waste disposal sites located in the\nCommonwealth on July 15, 1980, that do not violate the provisions of subsections\n(1) and (2) of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 211"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=8510","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:14Z","sha256":"36744acecc0dc87605567b8a8e6e9b69e054d8ef426b823dada7aa016dbba56b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-211.893","next":"us-ky/krs-211.896"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
