{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-211.901","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 211.901","heading":"Statewide program for prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of","body":"lead poisoning -- Duties of secretary -- Authorization of local regulations and\nprograms.\n(1) The secretary shall establish a statewide program for the prevention, screening,\ndiagnosis, and treatment of lead poisoning, including identification of the sources of\nsuch poisoning through such research, educational, epidemiological, and clinical\nactivities as may be necessary.\n(2) The secretary shall also initiate activities which:\n(a) Will either provide for or support the monitoring of all medical laboratories,\nprivate and public hospitals which perform lead determination tests on human\nblood or other tissues, so as to insure the accuracy of such tests;\n(b) Will develop or encourage t he development of appropriate programs and\nstudies to identify sources of lead intoxication and assist other entities in the\nidentification of lead in children's blood and the sources of that intoxication;\nand\n(c) Will provide for or support the developmen t of outreach programs to identify,\nscreen, and diagnose for elevated lead blood levels, at -risk persons not\notherwise utilizing existing screening and diagnostic programs.\n(3) The secretary may contract with any agencies, individuals, or groups for the\nprovision of services necessary to administer KRS 211.900 to 211.905 and KRS\n211.994.\n(4) The secretary may provide financial and technical assistance and consultation to\nlocal, county, or district governmental or private agencies for the promotion,\nestablishment and maintenance of lead poisoning prevention, screening, diagnostic,\nand treatment programs.\n(5) The secretary shall have the power to adopt, amend, or rescind such rules and\nregulations as deemed necessary or suitable for the proper administration o f KRS\n211.900 to 211.905 and KRS 211.994. The regulation shall include, but not be\nlimited to, those which govern permissible limits of lead-based hazards in and about\ndwellings and dwelling units.\n(6) Local boards of health may, by the adoption of local regulations, establish programs\nfor the prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of lead poisoning; provided\nthat such regulations are the same as the provisions of KRS 211.900 to 211.905 and\nKRS 211.994 and the regulations promulgated by the secreta ry pursuant to\nsubsection (5) of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 211"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=8514","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:14Z","sha256":"c913f27506acea9d0528b78a4fd5f1537661d745ce497af393dc399cad4b1b91","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-211.900","next":"us-ky/krs-211.902"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
