{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-212.170","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 212.170","heading":"Appointment of health officers -- Assistant -- Employees -- Appeals.","body":"(1) The county board of health of each county having a county department of health\nshall, subject to the approval of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, appoint\na health officer who shall, subject to merit system provisions, hold office at the\npleasure of both the county board and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.\n(2) A health officer may:\n(a) With the approval of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and the local\nboards of health concerned, serve in such capacity for more than one count y;\nand\n(b) At the discretion of the local board, act as chief administrative officer of the\nboard.\n(3) A health officer may appoint an administrative assistant for each county served by\nhim subject to the approval of the Cabinet for Health and Family Servi ces. An\nadministrative assistant shall exercise such duties as may be delegated to him by the\nhealth officer.\n(4) A health officer may employ and fix the compensation of, by contract or otherwise,\nsubject to the approval of the Cabinet for Health and Famil y Services, all medical,\ntechnical, clerical, professional, and other employees necessary for the maintenance\nand operation of the local health department in accordance with standards and merit\nsystem provisions prescribed by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.\n(5) In the absence of a local health officer, the secretary for health and family services\nor his duly appointed representative shall serve as health officer for the county\nconcerned.\n(6) Appeals under the local health department merit system  shall be conducted in\naccordance with KRS Chapter 13B.","path":["KRS Chapter 212"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=8585","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:15Z","sha256":"086b816831891d057dc1395b8d896e2549372beb7dc446fa257d41fae2443cb9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-212.160","next":"us-ky/krs-212.180"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
