{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-212.786","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 212.786","heading":"Membership of board -- Terms -- Vacancies.","body":"(1) The independent district board of health shall be composed of the following\nmembers:\n(a) The judge/executive or his designee as an ex officio member from each\nparticipating county;\n(b) The chairman from each participating local board of health as an ex off icio\nmember; and\n(c) Additional members appointed by the judge/executive with the approval of the\nfiscal court including, at least to the extent practicable, from the following\nprofessions:\n1. Registered nurses;\n2. Licensed veterinarians;\n3. Licensed dentists;\n4. Licensed physicians;\n5. Licensed podiatrists;\n6. Licensed optometrists;\n7. Mental health professionals;\n8. Public health professionals;\n9. Consumers; and\n10. Licensed pharmacists.\nThe appointments under paragraph (c) of this subsection shall be made taking into\nconsideration the need for a balanced representation on the board of the professions\nlisted under paragraph (c) of this subsection. Each member shall serve a term of two\n(2) years with a maximum of three (3) consecutive terms, except ex officio\nmembers who shall continue to serve.\n(2) The judge/executive, or his designee and the chairman of the local board of health\nshall serve as ex officio members of the district board of he alth. Additional\nappointments shall be based on population. Each county shall have an appointment\nof one (1) member for thirty thousand (30,000) population or portion thereof.\nAdditional members shall be at a rate of one (1) member per whole increment of\nthirty thousand (30,000) population. The mayor of each city containing a population\nequal to or greater than fifteen thousand (15,000) based upon the most recent\nfederal decennial census, or his or her designee, shall serve as an ex officio member\nof the di strict board of health and shall count against the population -based\nappointees.\n(3) All appointments made prior to June 24, 2015, shall remain unaffected, and the\nappointed members shall serve the remainder of their terms. The most recent\nestimates published by the United States Department of Commerce, Bureau of the\nCensus shall be used for appointments based on population made after June 24,\n2015.\n(4) The judge/executive shall fill all vacancies occurring by reason of death,\nresignation, or disqualification and do so for the unexpired term.","path":["KRS Chapter 212"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=44513","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:16Z","sha256":"caeb6f695ccd62c010b11272d9f966a0b3882f739b2a7c8f6b164c6238e98d92","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-212.784","next":"us-ky/krs-212.788"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
