{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-213.136","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 213.136","heading":"Certified copy of a vital record.","body":"(1) The state registrar shall upon receipt of an application issue a certified copy of a\nvital record in the registrar's custody or a part thereof to any applicant. Each copy\nissued shall show the date of registration and copies issued from records marked\n\"delayed\" or \"amended\" shall be similarly marked and show the effective date. The\ndocumentary evidence used to establish a delayed certificate shall be shown on all\ncopies issued. All forms and procedures used in the issuance of certified copies of\nvital recor ds in the Commonwealth shall be provided or approved by the state\nregistrar.\n(2) A certified copy of a vital record or any part thereof, issued in accordance with\nsubsection (1) of this section, shall be considered for all purposes the same as the\noriginal and shall be prima facie evidence of the facts stated therein. The evidentiary\nvalue of a certificate or record which has been amended shall be determined by the\njudicial or administrative body, or official before which the certificate is offered as\nevidence.\n(3) The federal agency responsible for national vital statistics may be furnished copies\nor data from the system of vital statistics for national statistics, if the federal agency\nshares in the cost of collecting, processing, and transmitting the data , and if the data\nis not used for other than statistical purposes by the federal agency unless so\nauthorized by the cabinet.\n(4) Federal, state, local, and other public or private agencies may, upon request, be\nfurnished copies or data from the system of v ital statistics for statistical or\nadministrative purposes upon terms or conditions as may be prescribed by\nregulation if the copies or data are not used for purposes other than those for which\nthey were requested without prior permission of the cabinet. N o information other\nthan statistical data shall be provided for commercial purposes.\n(5) The cabinet may, by agreement, transmit copies of records and other reports\nrequired by this chapter to offices of vital statistics outside the Commonwealth\nwhen the records or other reports relate to residents of those jurisdictions or persons\nborn in those jurisdictions. The agreement shall require that the copies be used for\nstatistical and administrative purposes only and the agreement shall further provide\nfor the retention and disposition of the copies. Copies received by the Vital\nStatistics Branch from offices of vital statistics in other states shall be handled in\nthe same manner as prescribed in this section.\n(6) No person shall prepare or issue any certificate  which purports to be an original,\ncertified copy, or copy of a vital record except as authorized in this section or\nregulation adopted hereunder.","path":["KRS Chapter 213"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=8747","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:17Z","sha256":"e2a26d2775a603f3df639c8f8ac0546d5add4e502ae3d6720dafae39b61a011b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-213.131","next":"us-ky/krs-213.140"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
