{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-214.554","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 214.554","heading":"Breast Cancer Screening Program -- Data and analysis.","body":"(1) There is established within the department a Breast Cancer Screening Program for\nthe purposes of:\n(a) Reducing morbidity and mortality from breast cancer in women through early\ndetection and treatment; and\n(b) Making breast cancer screening services of hig h quality and reasonable cost\navailable to women of all income levels throughout the Commonwealth and to\nwomen whose economic circumstances or geographic location limits access to\nbreast cancer screening facilities.\n(2) Services provided under the Breast C ancer Screening Program may be undertaken\nby private contract for services or operated by the department and may include the\npurchase, maintenance, and staffing of a truck, a van, or any other vehicle suitably\nequipped to perform breast cancer screening. T he program may also provide\nreferral services for the benefit of women for whom further examination or\ntreatment is indicated by the breast cancer screening.\n(3) The department may adopt a schedule of income -based fees to be charged for the\nbreast cancer s creening. The schedule shall be determined to make screening\navailable to the largest possible number of women throughout the Commonwealth.\nThe department shall, where practical, collect any available insurance proceeds or\nother reimbursement payable on behalf of any recipient of a breast cancer screening\nunder KRS 214.552 to 214.556 and may adjust the schedule of fees to reflect\ninsurance contributions. All fees collected shall be credited to the fund.\n(4) The department may accept any grant or award of fu nds from the federal\ngovernment or private sources for carrying out the provisions of KRS 214.552 to\n214.556.\n(5) The commissioner of the Department for Public Health shall provide data and\nanalysis upon request on the:\n(a) Implementation and outcome from the Breast Cancer Screening Program\nincluding, by geographic region, numbers of persons screened, numbers of\ncancers detected, referrals for treatment, and reductions in breast cancer\nmorbidity and mortality;\n(b) Development of quality assurance guidelines , including timetables, for breast\ncancer screening under this section, and monitoring of the manner and effect\nof implementation of those guidelines; and\n(c) Funds appropriated, received, and spent for breast cancer control by fiscal\nyear.","path":["KRS Chapter 214"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=50038","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:18Z","sha256":"629d3567fe423fbb23609347a8325ddcae21dda6ffff88f3bb0328038073bd19","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-214.552","next":"us-ky/krs-214.555"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
