{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-216.707","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 216.707","heading":"Annual violence prevention training -- Guidelines -- Requirements -- Basic","body":"protective skills competency test for health care workers.\n(1) By January 1, 2024, and at least annually thereafter, each health facility shall\nprovide violence preven tion training to all health care workers, volunteers, and\ncontracted security personnel.\n(2) The training shall occur within ninety (90) days of the health care worker's initial\ndate of hire unless he or she is considered a temporary employee, in which cas e the\ntraining shall occur before the health care worker begins performing his or her\nduties as an employee.\n(3) The method and frequency of training may vary according to the information and\nstrategies identified in the workplace safety plan developed pur suant to KRS\n216.705.\n(4) Trainings may include but are not limited to classes that provide:\n(a) Interactive questions and answers;\n(b) Hands-on training;\n(c) Video training;\n(d) Brochures;\n(e) Verbal training; or\n(f) Other verbal or written training deeme d appropriate by the workplace safety\nplan.\n(5) Trainings shall address the following topics as appropriate to the particular setting,\nduties, and responsibilities of the health care worker, volunteer, or contracted\nsecurity personnel being trained and shall be based upon the hazards identified in\nthe workplace safety assessment:\n(a) The health facility's workplace safety plan, including general safety\nprocedures;\n(b) Behavioral predictors of violence;\n(c) The violence escalation cycle;\n(d) De-escalation techniques to minimize violent behavior;\n(e) Strategies to prevent physical harm with hands-on practice or role-play;\n(f) Response team processes;\n(g) Proper application of restraints, including both physical and chemical\nrestraints;\n(h) The process to document and report incidents;\n(i) The debrief process for affected employees following violent acts; and\n(j) Resources available to employees for coping with the effects of violence.\n(6) Health facilities shall develop and execute a basic protective skills competency test\nfor health care workers, volunteers , and contracted security personnel based on the\nmaterial provided in the training.\n(7) Health facilities shall develop hiring practices that require applicants to demonstrate\ncompetency using protective safety skills.","path":["KRS Chapter 216"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=53961","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:22Z","sha256":"18ac398974dc70ef97202d88a2b22686bcd3bfa175080bfdadff9a1dce573bc7","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-216.705","next":"us-ky/krs-216.709"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
