{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-218a.991","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 218A.991","heading":"Revocation or denial of operator's license.","body":"(1) Whenever a person who is seventeen (17) years of age or younger but not less than\nfourteen (14) years of age is convicted of a violation of any offense in this chapter\nor is adjudicated delinquent as a result of any act which would be an offense under\nthis chapter, the court may, in addition to any other penalty:\n(a) If the person has a motor vehicle or motorcycle operator's license, recommend\nthe revocation of the license for a period not to exceed one (1) year, if it is the\nperson's first offense;\n(b) If the person has a motor vehicle or motorcycle operator's license, recommend\nthe revocation of the license for two (2) years, if it is a second or subsequent\noffense so long as the suggested period of revocation does not extend beyond\nthe person's eighteenth birthday; and\n(c) If the person has no motor vehicle or motorcycle operator's license, in the\nevent of a first offense, recommend that no such license shall be issued to\nsuch person for the period described in paragraph (a) of this subsection and in\nthe event of a second or subsequent offense, recommend that no license shall\nbe issued to such person for the period described in  paragraph (b) of this\nsubsection.\n(2) Each court recommending the revocation of a motor vehicle operator's license or\nmotorcycle operator's license or recommending the denial of such license pursuant\nto this section shall notify the Transportation Cabinet of the violation and the terms\nof the suggested revocation or denial.\n(3) Upon notice of such recommendation, the Transportation C abinet shall forthwith\nrevoke the license of that person, or deny to that person a license for the period\nrecommended by the court.  If through inadvertence the defendant should be issued\na license, the cabinet shall forthwith cancel it.\n(4) Licenses revoked pursuant to this section shall be retained by the Transportation\nCabinet for the period of revocation and shall be returned to the person after the\nexpiration of the revocation period upon payment of the reinstatement fees and\nsatisfaction of other requ irements for the reinstatement of revoked licenses as may\nbe required by the Transportation Cabinet.\n(5) Revocations of operator's licenses and denials of licenses pursuant to this section\nshall be in addition to any other suspension, revocation, or denial  of motor vehicle\nor motorcycle operator's licenses authorized by law.","path":["KRS Chapter 218A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=9715","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:31Z","sha256":"32ed8d5e2323913871636407552a054b112500f58a2a62542fa425915a52f386","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-218a.990","next":"us-ky/krs-218a.992"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
