{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-220.536","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 220.536","heading":"Investigation and establishment of territorial boundaries -- Inclusion of","body":"city -- Notice to residents of territory -- Annexation by multicounty district.\n(1) When a petition for annexation of territory to a district is filed with the\ncommissioner, he shall investigate at once the boundary of the territory proposed to\nbe annexed, and may, at the cost of the district, cause to be made surveys necessary\nto establish with reasonable accuracy a boundary that will, in his judgment,\naccomplish the purpose s ought by annexation of the territory in a practicable and\nworkable manner, and that will be sufficiently comprehensive to avoid confusion or\ninterference with any other similar district then existing or that may be created. The\nboundary established by the commissioner need not follow the boundary proposed\nby the district.\n(2) Should it be found desirable to include in the territory to be annexed by a district all\nor a portion of a city of the home rule class, the governing body of such city shall\ndetermine by ordinance whether the city or portion thereof shall be included in the\ndistrict, or whether the city shall bind itself to pay the charges for the services of the\ndistrict furnished in such area.\n(3) When the boundaries of the territory proposed to be annexed have been fixed by the\ncommissioner as prescribed in subsection (1) of this section, he shall give notice of\nthe application for annexation of the territory by publication pursuant to KRS\nChapter 424.\n(4) If a multicounty district proposes to annex t he unincorporated territory of another\ncontiguous county, and the fiscal court of the contiguous county expresses by\nresolution its approval of the annexation, then the commissioner shall accept the\nboundaries of the proposed annexation.","path":["KRS Chapter 220"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=43864","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:32Z","sha256":"3043d9663da65646deb4a5611adfbb0fd7bc14dbb903571455a6548be985aae4","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-220.535","next":"us-ky/krs-220.537"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
