{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-222.500","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 222.500","heading":"Definitions for KRS 222.500 to 222.510.","body":"As used in KRS 222.500 to 222.510:\n(1) \"Cabinet\" means the Cabinet for Health and Family Services;\n(2) \"Certifying organization\" means:\n(a) The Kentucky Recovery Housing Network;\n(b) The National Alliance for Recovery Residences or their recognized affiliates;\n(c) Oxford House, Inc.; and\n(d) Any other organization that develops and administers professional\ncertification programs requiring minimum standards for the operation of\nrecovery residences that has been recognized and approved by the Cabinet for\nHealth and Family Services;\n(3) \"Local government\" means a city, county, urban -county government, consolidated\nlocal government, charter county government, or unified local government;\n(4) \"Medication for addiction treatment\" means the use of pharmacological agents\napproved by the United States Foo d and Drug Administration for the treatment of\nsubstance use disorders in combination with counseling and other behavioral health\ntherapies to provide a whole -patient approach to the treatment of substance use\ndisorders;\n(5) \"Recovery residence\":\n(a) Means any premises, place, or building that:\n1. Holds itself out as a recovery residence, recovery home, sober living\nresidence, alcohol, illicit drug, and other intoxicating substance -free\nhome for unrelated individuals, or any o ther similarly named or\nidentified residence that promotes substance use disorder recovery\nthrough abstinence from intoxicating substances; and\n2. Provides a housing arrangement for a group of unrelated individuals\nwho are recovering from substance use disorders or to a group of parents\nwho are recovering from a substance use disorder and their children,\nincluding peer-to-peer supervision models; and\n(b) Does not include any premises, place, or building that is licensed or otherwise\napproved by the cabinet or any other agency of state government to operate as\na residential or inpatient substance use treatment facility;\n(6) \"Recovery support services\":\n(a) Means activities that are directed primarily toward recovery from substance\nuse disorders and includes b ut is not limited to mutual aid self -help meetings,\nrecovery coaching, spiritual coaching, group support, and assistance in\nachieving and retaining gainful employment; and\n(b) Does not include any medical, clinical, behavioral health, or other substance\nuse treatment service for which a license or other approval is required under\nstate law; and\n(7) \"Resident-driven length of stay\" means the amount of time an individual is allowed\nto stay at a recovery residence as determined by the individual resident based  upon\nhis or her recovery needs and not by a third-party payor.","path":["KRS Chapter 222"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55088","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:34Z","sha256":"1781bf4cc03fae51094193ecbf598eb5750a644b229b203e31bcd70d606a2855","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-222.480","next":"us-ky/krs-222.502"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
