{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-224.10-024","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 224.10-024","heading":"Kentucky Board of Certification of Water and Wastewater System","body":"Operators -- Membership -- Purpose.\n(1) The Kentucky Board of Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators is\nhereby established. The board shall recommend qualified applicants to the cabinet\nfor certification and perform other acts as may be necessary to carry out the\npurposes of this section. Members of the board shall be appointed by the Governor.\nThe board shall consist of eight (8) members who shall have professio nal\nbackgrounds as follows:\n(a) One (1) employee of a municipality who holds the position of either city\nmanager, city engineer, director of public works, or the equivalent thereof;\n(b) One (1) member who is a faculty member of a college, university, or\nprofessional school whose major field is related to water treatment, water\ndistribution, or wastewater treatment;\n(c) One (1) ex officio member representing the cabinet;\n(d) One (1) member who is an operator of an industrial wastewater system;\n(e) Two (2)  members currently employed as operators holding valid water\ntreatment or water distribution certificates; and\n(f) Two (2) members currently employed as operators holding valid wastewater\ncertificates.\n(2) After the expiration of the initial appointment s, board members shall serve four (4)\nyear terms. The ex officio member representing the cabinet shall serve as executive\nsecretary and treasurer and shall be responsible for maintaining records. The\nmembers of the board shall serve without compensation, b ut may be reimbursed for\nall actual and necessary expenses incurred while discharging their official duties. At\nleast five (5) members of the board shall constitute a quorum.\n(3) On or before December 31, 2024, the board, working in conjunction with the\nDrinking Water Advisory Workgroup and the Clean Water Advisory Workgroup,\nshall submit to the cabinet recommendations for the establishment of the following\nvoluntary certification programs for supervisors or certified operators of water\ntreatment plants, wa ter distribution systems, public or private sewage systems, or\nany portions thereof:\n(a) A voluntary certification program for supervisors of certified operators, which\nshall be available to any current supervisor or any certified operator interested\nin ta king on a supervisory role at his or her system or plant. Supervisor\ncertifications recommended under this subsection shall be classified by the\nsize, type, and physical characteristics of the systems they supervise, in the\nsame manner as operator certifications;\n(b) A voluntary shared services certification program for supervisors or certified\noperators working in, or interested in working in, regionalized systems or\nplants that serve multiple communities. The voluntary shared services\ncertifications recommended under  this subsection shall be classified by the\nsize, type, and physical characteristics of the systems they supervise, in the\nsame manner as operator certifications; and\n(c) A program or strategy for recruiting applicants to work in the operation of\nsystems or plants who are not currently participating in any apprenticeships or\ncertification programs administered by the cabinet.","path":[],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55565","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:39Z","sha256":"2b28c3b126771fbfe0a93a0fe5209a04dae2e7107be95a78e52600d0f873c8e5","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-224.10-022","next":"us-ky/krs-224.10-025"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
