The department shall be headed by a commissioner\nappointed by the Governor in accordance with KRS  12.040, and who shall report to\nthe secretary of the Public Protection Cabinet. The office of the commissioner shall\nalso include a deputy commissioner and an executive assistant to the commissioner,\nwho  shall be the policy making assistants to the commissioner and shall be\nappointed pursuant to KRS  12.050.
