{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-227.480","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 227.480","heading":"Authority to require permits -- Proof of licensure under KRS Chapter","body":"227A -- Exemptions -- Inspectors -- Inspection standards.\n(1) (a) A city, county, urban -county government, charter county, or consolidated\nlocal government or the state sh all, according to the Uniform State Building\nCode as it pertains to the plan review and inspection responsibilities of local\ngovernments or the state, require any person to obtain a permit before\ncommencing construction, alteration, or repairs of any electrical system.\n(b) The city, county, urban -county government, charter county, or consolidated\nlocal government or the state shall require all inspections that are deemed\nnecessary by the department for the safety of life and property. The\ndepartment shall p romulgate administrative regulations to describe the\ncircumstances where inspections are required.\n(2) A city, county, urban -county government, charter county, or consolidated local\ngovernment or the state shall not issue a permit unless the applicant subm its proof\nof being licensed as an electrical contractor under KRS Chapter 227A or of acting\non behalf of a licensed electrical contractor. However, the provisions of this\nsubsection shall not apply to:\n(a) A homeowner or farmer who does construction, alter ation, or repairs of any\nelectrical system on his or her own premises or any other person exempt from\nlicensing under KRS 227A.030 or 227A.150;\n(b) Electrical work performed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, a city, county,\nurban-county government, charter county, or consolidated local government,\nor any subdivision thereof;\n(c) A company with a recently deceased licensed electrical contractor, which shall\nbe granted an interim period of up to one hundred eighty (180) continuous\ncalendar days by the city, co unty, urban-county government, charter county,\nconsolidated local government, or state to allow the company to utilize the\nlicense of the deceased electrical contractor if:\n1. The company effectuates and documents all necessary bonding and\ninsurance policies required by KRS Chapter 227A; and\n2. Ensures that the bonding and insurance policies remain in effect for the\nentirety of the interim period of time extended; or\n(d) A disaster response business as defined in KRS 141.010.\n(3) A city, county, urban -county government, charter county, or consolidated local\ngovernment shall appoint and may fix the compensation of city, county, urban -\ncounty government, charter county, or consolidated local government electrical\ninspectors, and may by ordinance fix reasonable fees and establish other\nrequirements for the conduct of electrical inspections within its boundaries. All\nelectrical inspectors shall be certified under KRS 227.489.\n(4) Reasonable standards for the construction, alteration, and repair of any electrical\nsystem shall be those adopted in the Uniform State Building Code, as promulgated\nby the department, and shall have as a minimum standard the requirements of the\nNational Electrical Code, which may include Kentucky amendments.
