{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-227.784","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 227.784","heading":"Nonapplicability of KRS 227.770 to 227.784 to cigarettes for sale outside","body":"Kentucky -- Adoption of federal standards -- Local regulation preempted.\n(1) Nothing in KRS 227.770 to 227.784 shall be construed to prohibit any person or\nentity from manufacturing or selling cigarettes that do not meet the requirements of\nKRS 227.772 if the cigarettes are or will be stamped for sale in another state or are\npackaged for sale outside the United States and that person or entity has taken\nreasonable steps to ensure  that the cigarettes will not be sold or offered for sale to\npersons located in this state.\n(2) KRS 227.770 to 227.784 shall no longer apply if a federal reduced cigarette ignition\npropensity standard is adopted and becomes effective.\n(3) Notwithstanding a ny other provision of law, city, county, urban -county, charter\ncounty, or consolidated local government units of this state shall neither enact nor\nenforce any ordinance or other local law or regulation conflicting with, or\npreempted by, any provision of K RS 227.770 to 227.784 or with any policy of this\nstate expressed by KRS 227.770 to 227.784, whether that policy be expressed by\ninclusion of a provision in KRS 227.770 to 227.784 or by exclusion of that subject\nfrom KRS 227.770 to 227.784.","path":["KRS Chapter 227"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=10712","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:44Z","sha256":"a4d0f493112948aee046fb406fea362f37e145b9ca515ba9aa148fbb8e0b8590","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-227.782","next":"us-ky/krs-227.800"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
